In Māori legend, this graceful bird carried water to Māui as he tamed the sun, earning its long, slender legs that once let it bound effortlessly through the treetops. Cloaked in soft blue-grey, with striking blue wattles like drops of sky, the kōkako is both a messenger and a dreamer—a voice of the wild, singing the past into the present.
