In 2018, Sophia suffered the heartbreaking loss of her beloved chow chow, Feifei. More than just a pet, Feifei was a constant companion who brought immense joy and comfort to her life. Struggling with her grief, Sophia envisioned creating something meaningful—an enduring tribute to the unbreakable connection between pets and their owners.
Sophia was joined in this endeavour by Lynley, whose background as an artist brought invaluable expertise to their shared vision. Having grown up in China, Lynley was deeply influenced by her grandfather, a renowned painter whose works are permanently displayed in the China Art Museum. Her early years immersed in the arts honed her craftsmanship and sharpened her eye for detail, which would later shape the identity of Two Puppies Leather Studio.
Together, Sophia and Lynley began creating bespoke leather accessories, such as cardholders and keyrings, handcrafted from photographs provided by their customers. Each piece is made with meticulous care, capturing the unique personality and spirit of a beloved pet. These one-of-a-kind keepsakes have struck a chord with pet owners worldwide, offering a tangible way to honour their furry companions and keep their memories alive.
Celebrating New Zealand’s Unique Natural Beauty
While studying Landscape Architecture together at Lincoln University, Sophia and Lynley discovered their shared passion for New Zealand’s stunning landscapes and extraordinary biodiversity. They were captivated by the richness of the country’s native flora and fauna, which inspired them to incorporate these influences into their creative work.
This inspiration led to the launch of their second product line: a collection of handcrafted jewellery inspired by New Zealand’s natural beauty. Using the shapes, colours, and textures of native plants and wildlife as their muse, Sophia and Lynley design elegant earrings, bracelets, and other accessories that reflect the unique character of their adopted home. Through these creations, they aim to share the beauty of Aotearoa with the world while encouraging a sense of care and responsibility for the natural environment.
